Tour of Mu Cang Chais Incredible Terrace Fields

Backpackers often refer to Mu Cang Chai as “the heart of the Northwest” due to its central location on the map of Vietnam’s Northwestern area.

There are currently two main routes leading towards Mu Cang Chai. If tourists travel by coach or car, then they take the Noi Bai – Lao Cai highway and exit at Vinh Phuc, Phu Tho, and Nghia Lo town. After that, they continue along Highway 32 to reach Mu Cang Chai.

Motorcycling is the ideal mode of travel for adventurers who are seeking a challenge and are keen to see the world.

For bikers, the road leading to Mu Cang Chai will follow Highway 32 and cross the Trung Ha – Thanh Thuy – Thanh Son – Xuan So Bridge before eventually reaching Nghia Lo Town. Highway 32 then continues onward, taking travelers to Mu Cang Chai.

Mu Cang Chai is home to around 61,000 residents, with 91% of the population being Mong ethnics. The remaining residents represent Thai, Kinh, and other ethnic groups.

Eager farmers are preparing a fresh crop for the upcoming harvest season.

The months of June and July this year mark the beginning of the “water pouring” season in Mu Cang Chai, which many people believe to be an ideal time of the year to take a trip to the area.

During the summer months when the fields have recently been ploughed and flooded with water, visitors are able to take in the gleaming surface of the fields in the sunlight, the silvery white colour of the newly-irrigated field surface, and the green colour of the early transplanted fields.

Mu Cang Chai district is home to an array of beautiful terraced fields.

Mam Xoi (Tray of sticky rice) Hill located in Mu Cang Chai district is widely considered to be the most beautiful place throughout the northwest of Vietnam.

The Mam Xoi Hill is famous mostly for its unique shape of terrace rice fields.

Local rice paddies have become popular check-in destinations for visitors heading to the area.

The place attracts a large number of local photographers.
